In the Swim
In Florida, the warm climate, sea, sky, springs, rivers, lakes, bays, and countless pools stoke the culture–art, sport, politics alike. The water loves us all, and we the water, particularly swimmers, among whom I count myself.

All the old lifeguard stands along south Florida's beaches, such as the one pictured above in Ft. Lauderdale, have been replaced by sturdier, modern styles, but I like the rustic and weather-beaten.

I find sometimes beautiful sea fans and shells in the flotsam of the surf, and once a sweet doll, arranged by the tide and dressed in weeds just as you see her.
